Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.

The cakes and tarts are amazing! (Definitely should have ate the brownie first, it’s not too sweet but super rich and chocolatey) super cute spot to grab some coffee and a sweet treat

I had such high hopes for Lilac. We were visiting from Santa Cruz, where we have a few great gluten-free bakeries. I had very high hopes for this spot, looking at their amazing menu and pictures. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. I got quite a few things to try, including sweet corn muffins, coffee cake, a slice of coconut cake, a slice of the sea salt, caramel cake, brownie bites, a half of a tuna sandwich, and the little gem salad. I thought the sweet corn muffin was really good. I appreciated the actual corn kernels in it. The thing that I found to be true across the board was the fact that everything was super crumbly and fell apart. Each slice of cake, while fairly tasty, completely crumbled into pieces and had to be eaten with a spoon in a bowl. The bread for my tuna sandwich also completely broke and crumbled after I took a bite and I had to eat it with a fork and knife. The tuna was very dry too. But I did appreciate there wasn’t onions in it. The salad dressing was bland and tasted like nothing. For the amount of money we spent to try and enjoy a lot of different things here, my ultimate feeling was total disappointment. It’s the kind of place where everything look

Wow, wow, wow! So many beautiful gluten-free options! I rode a bike here in the morning early from my motel at the harbor, and what a delightful ride! It’s a beautiful atmosphere here with wonderful service and delicious food. The California Benedict was delicious!

Reliable cafe with a good location. I’ve eaten the Belgian waffle twice, and enjoyed it. The texture was “hearty” without being dense; flavor-wise, I felt it was less sweet than a traditional Belgian waffle. The real maple syrup and whipped cream created a smooth complement, and the syrup saturated the waffle rather than pooling on top of it. The bacon was savory and crisp, without being overly salty. Chicken apple sausage was also seasoned well. Recommend both. Two sides of meat made a lighter brekkie for two. I also had a soup du jour (cauliflower with bacon and hazelnut). The cauliflower base was smooth and unremarkable, but the “lardon” and hazelnuts added some texture and richness to an otherwise mild base. Service was fast, but the counter order aspect meant getting up if you needed “extra”. Lemon water is accessible. Staff is very helpful and welcoming though. It was relatively quiet when I ate breakfast.

My favorite brunch spot in Santa Barbara! I have come here 3 times during my trip because it the quiche lorraine is so delicious! My husband, who isn’t gluten free, said it’s the best quiche he’s ever had too! The cafe latte with sea salt caramel is amazing. The blueberry muffin was one of the best I’d ever had—the blueberries were so big! The coffee cake, cheesecake, lemon bar and brownies are also top notch!
